Yan is the founder and director of YanJing Consulting Limited. Yan is a Charted Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE). He is specialised in structural design and assessment of offshore structures with seven years’ experience in the offshore oil & gas industry and one year experience in general civil engineering.
After graduating from Imperial College in 2006 with a master’s degree, Yan joined Atkins’ oil and gas department where he had wide exposure to various aspects of structural integrity management (SIM) of offshore structures. His ability of solving practical engineering problems was highly recognised by clients, such as Talisman Energy UK, BP, and Perenco. In 2010, Yan was appointed as a project manager responsible for SIM of four offshore platforms (project service fee values est. £450k pa). This role strengthened Yan’s understanding of project management, cost prediction, budget control, and people management. He was also responsible for dealing with clients and contractors directly.
Yan Joined CB&I at the beginning of 2011 and was assigned to work on the structural design of the Montrose BLP project in the North Sea. He worked through the conceptual and FEED stages of the jacket structural design. He was also responsible for follow on works of the jacket including jacket/topsides interface, jacket/geotechnical interface, etc. He was transferred to the topsides detailed design team of Montrose BLP, where he was responsible for preparing a number of primary steel design reports.
Yan worked for Kvaerner briefly in 2013 on a number of front end projects before setting up his own limited company and providing services to SNC-Lavalin on Gina Krog jacket design.
Yan was one of six young engineers chosen by the 147th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) as a President’s Apprentice.
Yan is also actively involved in a number of volunteering works to serve his professional association the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) as well as the Chinese communities in London.
